  1. With the 18th G20 Summit set to commence tomorrow, world leaders are arriving in New Delhi. The summit will also witness the handing over of the Presidency by PM Narendra Modi to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula, who will hold the next term of the G20 Presidency from December 1.
  2. Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh has won the Ghosi Assembly by-poll, defeating rival BJP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan by 42,759 votes. Upbeat about the by-poll win, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has termed it the “Victory of the INDIA bloc.”
  3. UDF’s Chandy Oommen has won the Puthuppally by-election in Kerala, defeating LDF candidate Jaick C Thomas by over 37,000 votes. Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, till he was alive, represented the constituency in Kottayam district for over five decades in succession.
  4. Former PM Manmohan Singh has appreciated the Modi government’s stand of placing India’s sovereign and economic interests first, as it also appealed for peace between Russia and Ukraine. He also emphasized that G20 is not the “forum for settling security-related issues.”
  5. BJP leader and ex-CM of Karnataka B.S. Yediyurappa confirmed to the media that BJP and JD(S) are entering a pre-poll alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, adding that Union HM Amit Shah has agreed to give four seats to the JD(S).
  6. Customs officials in Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) of Bengaluru confiscated exotic animals from baggage unloaded from a Bangkok flight. Officials deported 72 live snakes to their country of origin and disposed of six dead capuchin monkeys.
  7. United Nations General Secretary Antonio Guterres, who arrived in the national capital for the G20 Summit, told the media that the climate crisis is spiraling out of control and urged the G20 countries to keep the ‘1.5 degrees Celsius goal’ alive.
  8. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunkak, answering the media, said he is working with the Indian government to tackle Pro-Khalistani Extremism in the UK, vouching that “no form of extremism or violence is acceptable in the United Kingdom.”
  9. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that the 285.3 Km – four-lane – Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will be opened by the year-end or in January next year. Built with a budget of Rs.17,000 crore, the project is getting completed ahead of its March 2024 timeline.
  10. As Japan launched its ‘Smart lander’ for investigating the moon (SLIM), ISRO has congratulated the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for its successful liftoff. SLIM, also called ‘Moon Sniper,’ is expected to reach the moon by February.
