  1. ISRO on Saturday said it put the Pragyan rover to sleep with payloads APXS and LIBS turned off. The space agency hopes to wake up Pragyan at the start of the next lunar day, fourteen days later.
  2. The center has formed an eight-member panel seeking recommendations on implementing ‘One Nation, One Election.’ The panel includes Home Minister Amit Shah, Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former Rajya Sabha LoP Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Finance Commission chairman NK Singh, former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash C. Kashyap, former Solicitor General and senior advocate Harish Salve and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari. However, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has declined to be part of the panel.
  3. Hyderabad witnessed heavy rains and thunderstorms this morning. IMD cited cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal and troughs over Coastal AP and Vidarbha regions as cause for the heavy downpours.

  5. CBI has filed its chargesheet against three railway officials arrested in the Balasore Rail tragedy case that killed 291 people. All three officials, Arun Kumar Mahanta, Senior Sectional Engineer (Signal) Balasore; Mohammed Amir Khan, Sectional Engineer Soro; and Technician Pappu Kumar, have also been charged with attempt to destroy evidence.
  6. Facing unprecedented environmental disruptions due to monsoon fury, Himachal Pradesh has banned hill cutting for two weeks, also fresh permissions for planning and building construction for commercial/tourism in six districts — Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Kangra, Solan, and Chamba.
  7. Northern Railways has issued a list of 300 plus trains, services of which would be affected between September 9-10 due to the G20 Summit in New Delhi. Railway authorities have advised people with plans to travel on these dates to check train timings to avoid inconvenience.
  8. ASI has sought an additional eight weeks to complete its scientific survey in the Gyanvapi Mosque complex. Allahabad HC had granted four weeks, ending on September 2, to determine if the seventeenth-century mosque is standing on a pre-existing Hindu structure.
  9. The last of the ten Kuki families, who defiantly clung to their homes in the heart of Imphal, were evacuated and taken to Motbung in Kangpokpi by the Manipur government in an overnight swoop.
  10. Walmart is investing $3.5 billion in Flipkart to raise its stake in the Indian e-commerce major to 80.5%. The US-based retailer had acquired a controlling stake of 77% in Flipkart in a $16 billion deal in 2018.
