  1. Air India Express flight B737 (VT AXZ) bound to Cochin from Muscat experienced smoke and fire in the engine at the Muscat International Airport on Wednesday. All passengers were safely moved to the terminal building.
  2. The Election Commission of India has delisted 86 registered unrecognized political parties (RUPP) after they failed to meet physical verification terms. They were not found in their registered addresses. Likewise, 253 RUPPs were put under an “inactive” list, as they did not contest an election five years from the date of registration.
  3. Vedanta and Foxconn are teaming up to invest Rs.1.5 Lakh crores in semiconductor fabrication, display fabrication, semiconductor assembling, and testing units in Ahmedabad. On Tuesday, the companies signed an MoU with the Gujarat government in this regard.

  5. In a significant step to bring transgenders to mainstream social life, the Karnataka government announced reservations for transgenders in police recruitment. Home minister Araga Jnanendra said that in the ongoing constable selection 79 vacancies out of 3,484 were reserved for transgenders.
  6. Bollywood Actress Jacqueline Fernandez was questioned by the Delhi police’s Economic Offences wing in the Rs.200 crore extortion case. Ms. Fernandez was grilled for straight 8 hours.
  7. In an escalation of hostilities, Armenian and Azerbaijan’s armies clashed with each other, leaving 49 Armenian servicemen and an undisclosed number of Azeris dead overnight.
  8. During a senate hearing on Tuesday, Senator Chuck Grassley said at least one Chinese agent is working at Twitter Inc. Famed hacker and Twitter’s former head of security, Peter “Madge” Zatko testified before the senate. He said there was fear among some Twitter employees that user data could be accessed by the Chinese government.
  9. Germany is working on a new trade policy with China to scale down its dependence on Chinese raw materials, batteries, and semiconductors. Economic minister Robert Habeck said his country would examine Chinese investments in Europe.
  10. France will turn off lights illuminating the Eiffel towers an hour early, from 1 am (local time) to 11.45 pm. The move comes amid gas supply cuts and skyrocketing fuel process. Extinguishing illumination at the Eiffel Towers would lead to a 4% reduced power consumption.
