  • The SC bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud will hear pleas from Uddhav faction of Sena and Sharad Pawar’s NCP bloc on October 30. The groups want the Maharashtra assembly speaker to expedite his decision on the disqualification petitions against Shinde faction MLAs. 
  • Seven members of a family living in Surat’s Palanpur are suspected to have committed mass suicide owing to some financial distress. Rakesh Barot, Surat’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the Police are investigating the case and that they have recovered a suicide note. 
  • ED has arrested the promoters of Parabolic Drugs, Vineet Gupta and Pranav Gupta, and their charted accountant, S K Bansal, in a money laundering case. The Guptas were directors of Ashoka University in Sonpet until the CBI initiated a probe against them in 2022.

  • A mine fire in Kazakhstan due to a suspected methane blast has killed 32 people. Eighteen people are still missing. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has declared October 29, a national day of mourning.
