  • After the center approved the voluntary retirement of IAS officer V Kartikeya Pandian (2000-batch Odisha cadre), the private secretary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been raised to a cabinet rank post.
  • BJP leader and son of Union minister Narayan Rane, Nilesh Rane, has announced he is quitting electoral politics. He expressed gratitude for the love he received from people during his short stint in politics, adding he feels fortunate working with the BJP. 
  • Delhi’s AQI crossed the 300 mark early this morning, reaching 346. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai cited falling temperatures and wind speed in the national capital for worsening of air quality. 
  • Manipur Police, along with central armed forces, have seized a huge cache of ammunition, sophisticated weapons, and drugs from the Myanmar-based CKLA militant group. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said the seizure underscores “a transnational plot aimed at destabilizing both Manipur and our nation.”
  • On October 24 1945 the United Nations came into force. The international body was ratified by 51 countries, including the five permanent members (France, China, USSR, the UK, and the US). There were also 46 signatories. 
  • The Sri Lankan cabinet has approved free visas for travelers from India, Russia, China, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand. The pilot project, which comes to immediate effect will run till March 31, 2024, according to Foreign Minister Ali Sabry.
