  1. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu Kashmir on Monday. Other places in the Union Territory would experience widespread rain and snowfall.
  2. Today is the birth anniversary of India’s missile man and lauded President Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Born on October 15, 1931, in Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram, Kalam left his legacy as a warm and inspiring leader loved by all in the country.
  3. An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 struck 10 km away from Faridabad in Haryana just after 4 pm today. People could experience tremors in the Delhi-NCR region and the neighboring areas.
  4. EAM Jaishankar unveiled a bust statue of Rabindranath Tagore in the Bac Ninh province of Vietnam. He was happy to know that Tagore’s works, translated into Vietnamese, are included in the textbooks.
  5. The Congress party has released its first list of candidates for the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. Reports say the party was waiting for the first day of Navaratri to begin to release the list.
  6. In Telangana, CM K Chandrasekhar Rao released the Manifesto of his party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The poll promises include Rs.3000 a month to eligible poor women and Rs. 5 Lakh insurance for BPL card holders.
  7. Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India MS Gill died at a South Delhi hospital today. Gill was 86. He served as CEC between December 1996 and June 2001.
  8. Afghnaistan’s Herat region, which lost more than 1000 people last week in an earthquake, has been hit by another quake, with an intensity of 6.3 on the Rithcers scale. There are no reports of any casualties as yet.
  9. As the standoff between India and Canada continues, Canadian PM Trudeau has extended his Navratri greetings to the Hindu community. Earlier, the Hindu Forum of Canada (HFC) had objected to Khalistani terrorist Pannum’s open threat to the community.
  10. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan today flagged the first ship to dock at the deep-water international Vizhinjam port. The Rs 7,700 crore Vizhinjam port was developed by the Adani Group, under a public-private partnership model.
