  • The Indian Meteorological Department said heavy rainfall is likely over the Northwest and Central parts of the country, covering Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana, till Oct 17. Also, there is a probable chance of snowfall in Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. 
  • Delhi, Mumbai, and several other cities have been placed on high alert to prevent communal unrest in the backdrop of intensifying conflict between Israel and Hamas. Indian Intelligence agencies have warned of potential communal tensions. 
  • The Supreme Court has asked the AIIMS Medical Board to assess the health of the mother and fetus in the case where a married woman sought the court’s nod to end her pregnancy in the 26th week. The court also wanted to know if the woman had any physical or mental disorder.

  • In a 2011 case of supplying arms and ammunition to Maoists, 20 Security personnel (PACs and CRPFs Jawans), with four civilians, were sentenced to 10 years of jail by the court of additional district and sessions judge in UP’s Rampur.
