  • Post Diwali, Delhi, Kolkatta, and Mumbai featured among the top 10 cities worldwide with significant air pollution. In Delhi, several areas recorded AQI of more than 900, with people bursting crackers despite a ban in place.
  • Rescuing all 40 workers trapped inside the under-construction tunnel on the Yamunotri National Highway, which partially collapsed on Sunday, could take a couple of days. Oxygen and food packets are being sent to them via pipeline. 
  • In Hyderabad’s Nampally, a massive fire at a multi-storied apartment complex, where chemical and oil drums were stored, has killed nine people. Fire Services personnel evacuated at least 20 people. Building owner Ramesh Jaiswal is on the run. 
  • A leopard that holed up inside a house in Coonoor in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris District, fearing Diwali crackers, finally returned to the reserve forest. At least six people sustained minor injuries when they went in to look for the leopard. 
  • The Indian government is preparing an EV policy to allow international car makers like Tesla to bring fully-built electric vehicles into the Indian market at concessional tax rates, eventually attracting them to set shop in the country. 
  • The Union Home Ministry has notified several Meitei militant organizations as “unlawful associations” as per the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The order will remain effective for five years.
