Communal tensions in Kolhapur, Maharashtra: In Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, a bandh call by Bajrang dal over social media posts on Aurangazeb and Tippu Sultan turned violent with several right-wing groups participating in the communally flared up protest.

Another rail accident in Odisha: Six laborers who took shelter under a freight train laden with stones and sand at the Jajpur Keonjhar Road Station were run over by the wagons of the train, which started rolling down the track, though not connected to an engine.  

Monsoon onset over Kerala: After a brief interruption by Cyclone Biparjoy, the first monsoon rains hit the Kerala coast. According to IMD, the delay in the arrival of monsoon will have no bearing on the volume and distribution of the rains. 

Rs.3000 crores for coal exploration: Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi said the government is opening coal and lignite exploration to the private sector. He added that Rs.2980 crore has been approved to find new mines and 14 qualified agencies were already shortlisted.  

Doordarshan fame Gitanjali Aiyar no-more: Award-winning anchor and one of India’s first female news presenters on Doordarshan, Gitanjali Aiyar, passed away on Wednesday. She was 71 and was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

BSNL gets booster for 4G and 5G services: BSNL would receive Rs.89,000, the third installment of its revival package, for purchasing spectrum-related items. Telecom and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, with the current installment, total financial support to BSNL has crossed Rs.3.22 Lakh crores.
