1. Steep Tomato prices temporary: Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said the current steep prices of Tomatoes are seasonal and temporary as per the last five years’ data. He added that the rates would cool down once supplies from Himachal Pradesh to Delhi resume in ten days. 

2. Age-defying athlete: Rambai, the 106-year-old centenarian from Haryana, won three gold medals at the 18th National Open Athletics Championship in Dehradun. Rambai, who took up athletics two years ago, has won more than 200 medals in in-country and global sporting events. 

3. Ahmedabad to host India-Pakistan match: India-Pakistan’s 2023 50-over World Cup tie match will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 1, as per the schedule announced by ICC. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said it awaits clearance from its government.

4. Bhim Army chief escapes with minor bullet injury: The convoy of Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad was attacked by armed assailants in Uttar Pradesh. Senior SP Vipin Tada confirmed that a bullet brushed past the Dalit leader’s abdomen when armed men in a car fired at Aazad’s convoy. 

5. Indian universities do better in global rankings: IIT-Bombay has entered into the World’s top 150 Universities, ranking 147 in the QS World University Rankings 2024. The University of Delhi and Anna University have made it into the Top 500, with rankings of 407 and 427. 

6. Another bridge collapse in Bihar: The Pipa bridge over the Ganges in Bihar’s Vaishali district was washed away by the river following heavy rainfall accompanied by storms, disrupting road connectivity between Hajipur and Raghupur.

7. Religious procession ends on a tragic note: Jagannath’s ‘Ulta Rath Yatra’ festival in Tripura’s Unokoti district was struck by tragedy when the chariot touched a high-tension wire and caught fire. Seven people were killed and 18 others were injured in the accident. 

8. Triumph unveils two 400 cc models: Two new Triumph Motorcycles – Speed 400 and Scrambler 400x co-manufactured by Bajaj were unveiled in London. The bikes, powered by a brand new 398cc 40bhp engine, would be launched in India on July 5.  

9. Anna Bhagya to become “Dhana” Bhagya: The Siddaramaih government in Karnataka has decided to give cash to BPL card holders instead of 5 Kgs of rice, due to difficulty in procuring the grain from the center and other neighboring states. Rs.170 would be transferred to the accounts of the BPL family.

10. Motorola to roll out new mobile phones: Motorola India is about to launch two new mobile phones under the Motorola Razr 40 series. The phones are likely to be sold on the Amazon India portal at a starting price of Rs.59,990.
