1. Amazon promises more investments in India: Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the E-com major would invest $15 billion more in India, raising its total investments to $26 billion by 2030. He met PM Modi during his three-day visit to the US.
2. BJP versus United Opposition in 2024 elections: The opposition unity meeting in Patna culminated yesterday with leaders of 17 political parties in the country agreeing to put up a united front against the ruling BJP for the 2024 elections. BJP has dubbed the talks a “futile exercise.”
3. AAP sets conditions for Congress: AAP has said that any alliance that has Congress would be difficult until the grand-old party publicly denounces the Centre’s ordinance on the control of administrative services and votes it out in Rajya Sabha.
4. PM Modi in Egypt: PM Modi is on a two-day state visit to Cairo. The Prime Minister will pay a visit to the Al-Hakim mosque and Heliopolis war memorial and address the Indian congregation in the country.
5. Monsoon in Mumbai: IMD said the Southwest Monsoon would hit Mumbai today. The Meteorological Department also predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of Maharashtra over the next four to five days, as it issued a yellow alert to Mumbai city.
6. TCS refutes recruitment scam charges: Rocked by a complaint regarding a scandal in the recruitment process to the tune of Rs.100 crore, TCS said, after “revisitation” it found no fraud involving any of its Key managerial persons.
7. New power tariff by next year: The Center has announced a new electricity tariff called the Time of Day (ToD) Tariff, with varying charges for solar hours and peak consumption hours. The new tariff would apply to commercial and Industrial consumers, with 10 KW and above maximum demand, by April 2024 and to domestic consumers by April 2025.
8. Hyundai introduces EXTER: Hyundai has rolled out its first EXTER car, a micro SUV, before its July 10 launch. The first unit from the production line of Hyundai’s manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur donned a unique khaki color.
9. Google’s new search filter: Google is rolling out its new “Perspectives” tab in its search. The Perspectives filter will show users long and short videos, images, and textual posts from discussion boards, social media, and Q&A sites. The results will be curated based on first-hand experience and a “deeper knowledge” of the subject from human authors.
10. India moves up on Global Gender Gap: India has climbed eight places in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap ranking, from 135th spot in 2022 to 127th in 2023 out of 146 countries.
