1. Air India to rehire retired pilots: Air India, owned by the Tata group, is planning to rehire pilots who retired within three years as commanders. The move comes amid reports of Air India negotiating a deal to buy 300 single-aisle passenger aircraft.     

2. Assam flood situation worrisome: The flood situation in Assam continues to be grim, with 54.5 lakh people affected. The number of people dead since mid-may has risen to 101. 

3. Indian diplomats at Kabul: India deployed a tech team to its embassy in Kabul to oversee the delivery of humanitarian assistance despatched to the country. Recently, India sent 50,000 MT of wheat to the Taliban-ruled country.  

4. Covid jabs prevented 20m deaths worldwide: A mathematical modeling study that appeared in The Lancet Infectious Diseases said vaccinations prevented 20m covid -related deaths worldwide during the first year of inoculation.  

5. Monkeypox declared a public health emergency: Ahead of a WHO meeting on Monkeypox, World Health Network (WHN) has termed the disease outbreak as a public health emergency of global concern. Worldwide there are about 3,417 confirmed cases of Monkeypox across 58 countries.  

6. TN cracker manufacturing unit blast kills three: Two women and one man working at a fireworks-making facility in Cuddalore were charred to death following an explosion. According to reports, people as far as 2km could hear the explosion. 

7. Probe after Tata Nexon EV catches fire: A Tata Nexon owner had a miraculous escape in Mumbai after the car caught fire. Tata Motors, which initiated a probe, has termed the vehicle fire an “isolated thermal incident.”

8. Brakes India to produce green castings for Volvo: Brakes India will manufacture 180,000 tons of iron castings in an eco-friendly way for the Volvo group. The company will use renewable energy sources and adopt sustainable manufacturing operations. 

9. Retailers are saying no to avoid plastic straws: With a ban on single-use plastics coming soon, retailers are now asking beverage companies to avoid supplying tetra packs with plastic straws. The ban will come to effect from Jul 1 across India.  

10. In eight years, India’s gold refining capacity has gone up by 500%: India now ranks fourth in the global recycling of gold. According to a report, the country’s refining capacity rose by 500 percent from 2013 to 2021.
