1. Britain’s High Potential Individual (HPI) Visa excludes Indian Universities: The UK government had earlier announced a scheme to attract highly-skilled graduates from the top 50 universities of the world. The program grants a two-year work visa to grads from these universities to move to London with their families. However, the “Western-centric’ top 50 list released by the UK has not included even a single university from India.
2. Essel Group Chairman Subash Chandra gets BJP’s backing for RS seat: BJP sprang a surprise on Tuesday by backing Media baron Subash Chandra for the Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan. The move was kept a secret by the party until Chandra came to file his nomination papers. His previous tenure at Rajya Sabha came from Haryana with the support of the Congress party.
3. Delhi Minister Satyendra Jain in 10 days ED custody: A special court in Delhi granted permission to the Enforcement Directorate to take Satyendra Jain into 10 Days of custody. The Minister was earlier arrested on charges of money laundering. However, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has slammed the arrest as “politically motivated” and said charges against Satyendra Jain are “completely bogus.”

Renowned Singer KK dies after performing his “last concert”: Singer KK (Krishna Kumar Kunnath), known for his mesmerizing voice, and unforgettable musical numbers like Pal, Tadap Tadap, and Aankhon Mein Teri, was performing a live concert at Kolkatta’s Nazrul Mancha. Soon after the event, which ended at 9 pm, KK returned to his room at Hotel Esplanade complaining of chest pain. Sadly, on the way to CMRI Hospital, the singer passed away. KK is 54 and is one of the best voices in India.
5. Terrorists in J&K gun down teacher outside the school: 36-year-old Rajni Bala, belonging to the Hindu Dalit community, was gunned down by terrorists in front of her school. She worked in the government school at Gopalpora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. On Tuesday morning, as she was dropped at the school by her husband, terrorists opened fire on her. She succumbed to severe blood loss from multiple bullet injuries. The couple has a 13-year-old daughter.
6. Revenue of Indian pharma companies see double-digit growth in Russia: The revenues of Sun Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL), and Glenmark have registered double-digit growth in Q4. Sources from these pharma companies say that increase in revenue is due to stocking up by customers during the initial phases of the crisis (Russia-Ukraine standoff).
7. Sri Lanka’s inflation above 39%: The consumer prices in Colombo went up to 39.1% compared to the previous year’s values. The country has been struggling to overcome continuing food and fuel shortages. So in a measure to boost government revenues, Sri Lanka has announced an increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) from the current 8 percent to 12 percent with immediate effect. And from October this year, corporate income tax will go up to 30 percent from the existing 24 percent.

The SC said, Medical Education in India is run by big business houses: Addressing a petition by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), the vacation bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justices B R Gaval and Hima Kohli said, “Everyone knows that education has become an industry in India. They are big business houses running the medical and pharmacy colleges. The cost of education has become so prohibitive that students are forced to go to Ukraine.”

10. Central government clears GST compensation to states: The central government has released the entire GST compensation to states, amounting to Rs. 86,912 crores as of May 31, 2022. The decision is said to help states manage their resources better and help them carry out their programs seamlessly during the fiscal year.
