1. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi resigns. Illayaraja, PT Usha, and others in Rajya Sabha 

Union Ministers Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and RCP Singh resigned from the cabinet as their Rajya Sabha tenure is ending on July 7. Meanwhile, former athlete P T Usha, Music composer, Ilayaraja, philanthropist V Veerendra Heggade, and screenwriter and director V Vijendra Prasad were nominated by the government to the Upper House. 

2. New rules allow booster shots in six months

The time gap required to put the booster dose after the second one has been reduced by the Union Health Ministry from nine to six months.

4. Government asks manufacturers to cut cooking oil prices by Rs.10

With global edible oil prices falling, the government has asked manufacturers to slash cooking oil prices by Rs.10/liter and maintain a uniform MRP for each brand across the country.

TVS Motors has launched a new scrambler motorcycle, TVS Ronin. The bike, which kindled curiosity among buyers with its leaked spy pictures online, will be available in showrooms at a starting price of Rs.1.49 lakh (ex-showroom). 

6. Aga Khan Museum apologizes for Kaali poster

The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto has apologized for hurting Hindu religious sentiments. Earlier, the Indian High Commission in Canada had taken up the matter with Canadian authorities to take down the offensive poster of Hindu Goddess Kaali shared by Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai.

7. Fellow Conservative members ask Boris Johnson to step down as PM

Former secretary of state for health and social care, Sajid Javid, has asked PM Boris Johnson to resign. Javed said, “At some point, we have to conclude that enough is enough. I believe that point is now.”

8. “No one can use our soil to threaten the security of other nations: Taliban”

Taliban’s reclusive supreme leader Hebatullah Akhundzada has said that Afghanistan will not allow its soil to be used against any country, underlining that Kabul wants a good and strong diplomatic relationship with the entire world.  

9. SC says it cannot interfere in party matters

The Supreme Court has refused to stop AIADMK’s general council meeting on July 11, stating that courts cannot interfere in internal disputes of political parties. The ruling has come amidst factional disputes between former AIADMK chief ministers Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Paneerselvam. 

10. Kerala minister resigns following remarks on the constitution

Kerala’s minister for fisheries, culture, and youth affairs, Saji Cherian, resigned from the state cabinet on Wednesday, following criticism over his statements against the constitution. The portfolios he was looking after have now been given to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
