1. Maha Governor’s talk at event kindles controversy: Maharasthra Governor Koshyari created a controversy by saying if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Mumbai and Thane, there would be no money left here, and Mumbai would no longer be the financial capital of the country. He was speaking at an event for naming a chowk in Andheri Mumbai. 

2. Heavy downpour in Uttarakhand wrecks roads: A significant portion of the Nainital-Bhowali road was swept away following heavy rains and landslides in the region. Also, part of Badrinath NH-7 got washed away, leaving pilgrims stranded on both sides. Meanwhile, IMD has given an ‘Orange alert’ to Several districts in Uttarakhand.  

3. TN CM M K Stalin to build an 80 crore rupee monument for his father: A 42-meter-tall Pen Monument in the Bay of Bengal, off the Marina beach (Chennai), for late DMK chief and former CM of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi, has been proposed by the state government. However, it is awaiting a nod from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change.

4. “Ground MiG 21 fighter jets before they claim another life”: Kin of slain IAF pilots (Wing Commander M Rana and Flight Lieutenant Advitiya Bal) appealed to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to ground the Soviet-era MiG 21 fighter jets.

5. Probe on Partha Chatterjee gets intricate: Arpita Mukherjee has revealed 14 names to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The agency, which has so far recovered Rs.50 from her residence, has also seized eight bank accounts of various companies operated by her. 

6. Police recover explosives from Marak’s farmhouse: Police have unearthed explosives and traditional weapons from BJP leader Bernard N Marak’s farmhouse in Meghalaya. SP Vivekanandha Singh said 35 gelatine sticks, 100 detonators, 4 crossbows, and 15 arrows were among the recovered weapons. Marak was arrested on charges of running a brothel in his farmhouse located on the outskirts of Tura town. 

7. NMC tells private colleges to cut fees on 50% of medical seats: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has written letters to all deemed universities running medical courses to bring down the fee on half their medical seats to that of government colleges. 

8. Madras HC says AYUSH doctors, with their system, can also practice allopathy: Citing the TN government’s circular dated Oct 15, 2010, the Madras HC said AYUSH practitioners who are institutionally qualified and registered with TN Siddha Medical Council, TN Board of Indian Medicine, and TN Homeopathy Medical Council are eligible for the practice of allopathy along with their system of medicine.

9. Rupee gains signal reversing of weakening trend: Rupee saw its sharpest gain against the dollar in fifteen months, reducing pressure on RBI to sell dollars from the country’s forex reserves. On Friday, it closed at Rs.79.26, with a 50 paise gain.  

10. India gets its own Bullion exchange: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, inaugurated the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX). Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said that as the gold trade gets more organized through this exchange, India will be in a position to fix gold prices and leave an impact across the world.
