1. India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas today: The nation today celebrated the victory of its forces at Kargil on July 26, 1999, over the forceful occupation of Indian territory by the Pakistani army. 

2. SC collegium approves 56 names for nine high courts: Amid huge pendency in cases, the Supreme Court collegium approved 56 names (36 Judicial officers and 20 advocates) for the appointment of judges in nine High Courts. The approval by the collegium is the second highest in CJI N V Ramana’s tenure. 

3. Bengal CM breaks her silence on Chatterjee’s arrest: Responding to her Cabinet minister Partha Chatterjee’s arrest, CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday said neither her party nor the government has any connection with the corruption charges. However, she demanded a time-bound probe to unmask the guilty.  

4. Uddhav Thackeray seeks SC intervention on EC proceedings: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has approached the Supreme Court to stall Election Commission proceedings on the Shinde group’s claim over the party symbol ‘bow and arrow.’ 

5. Four Congress MPs suspended for continuous disruptions in Parliament: After a near-washout of parliament proceeding last week, Four Congress MPs were suspended for the remaining session “utter disregard to the chair.”  

6. Teaching vacancies in KVs run in thousands: The education ministry has revealed over 12,000 teaching vacancies are available in Kendriya Vidyalaya’s across the states. The maximum unfilled vacancy is in Tamil Nadu (1,162), followed by Madhya Pradesh (1,066) and Karnataka (1.006). 

7. ED asks Sonia Gandhi to appear again on Wednesday: After questioning Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi on the National Herald money laundering case for nearly six hours today, ED has asked her to appear again tomorrow. 

8. Over two dozen MPs suspended from the Parliament: A batch of 19 MPs in the Rajya Sabha were barred for a week following a ruckus by the opposition during the ongoing monsoon session. The suspended include 7 TMC and 7 DMK MPs.   

9. BJP leader at Meghalaya arrested: The Vice-President of the BJP’ Meghalaya unit, Bernard N Marak, accused of operating a brothel in his farmhouse, was arrested today in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. 

10. Hawaii volcano erupts lava: One of the five volcanoes in Hawaii islands, also one among the active volcanoes in the region, Kilauea started discharging hot fiery lava. According to US geological study, the eruption continued for 24 hours.
