1. India’s first Monkeypox case reported from Kerala: An man who returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was admitted to a hospital with symptoms of Monkeypox. His samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing. On inquiry, it has been found that he was in close contact with an infected person abroad.

2. 92% of eligible adults in India have not taken their booster dose: As per vaccination data, 92% of adults (about 584 million people) who are ‘late’ for their booster dose of the covid vaccine have not opted for one, as yet. 

3. 1985 Air India Bombing suspect shot dead in Canada: Ripudaman Singh Malik, an ex-sympathizer of the Khalistani movement and suspect in the 1985 Air India Bombing case, was shot dead outside his clothing business in Vancouver in what appears to be a targeted shooting. He was acquitted by a Canadian court in 2005. 

4. UAE to invest $2 billion in food parks across India: The I2U2 format summit talks between India, Israel, UAE, and the US, had the UAE pledging an investment of $2 billion in food parks across the country backed by state-of-the-art, energy-smart technologies from Israel and the US.   

5. BJP’s parliamentary board to decide its VP candidate tomorrow: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentary board will meet on Saturday to choose its candidate for the post of Vice president of India. The BJP-led NDA has a sufficient majority in the electoral college.  

6. Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns, Ranil Wickremesinghe takes oath as president: Jubilant protestors cheering the resignation of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa gathered outside the presidential secretariat, defying the curfew. Rajapaksa sent his resignation by email after fleeing to Singapore from the Maldives. Wickremesinghe will be the Caretaker President till the parliament elects a new President. 

7. Rishi Sunak leads in the second round with 101 votes: UK’s former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, leads the second round of the ballot to elect the next conservative party leader with 101 votes.

8. NHAI cuts more than a lakh trees to build Srinagar ring road: Replying to a query from RTI activist Raman Sharma, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that more than 1.10 lakh private trees, mostly Apple, Cedar, Walnut, and Mulberry trees with an estimated value of Rs.13.76 crores, have been cut down to lay the Srinaragr Ring Road.    

9. Patiala court upholds 2 yr jail term for Daler Mehndi: Daler Mehndi, who was on bail and fighting against a trial court ruling of 2 years in jail in a 2003 human trafficking case, lost it. Punjab’s Patiala court has upheld the conviction, rejecting the singer’s plea. 

10. Google invests in Airtel: Google has invested Rs.5224 crores in Airtel by purchasing 1.2% of the company’s equity shares, which is about 7.1 crore equity shares at Rs.734 a piece.
