  • The Ram Temple inauguration in Ayodhya on January 22 will be a star-studded event with 3000 VVIPS, pontiffs, priests, donors, and politicians, among 7000 invitees. PM Modi is said to perform the rituals inside the temple sanctum sanctorum at around 12.15 pm. 
  • The Supreme Court rendered justice in the Bilkis Bano Case by striking down the remission given to the 11 convicts–rapists and murderers. The apex court called the remission a breach of the rule of law and that the “Gujarat government usurped power not vested in it and abused its power.” 
  • India will invest Rs.45,000 crore in River Cruise (Cruise vessels and cruise terminal infrastructure), increasing the passenger capacity from 2 lakh to 15 lakh by 2047, said Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the sidelines of the first Inland Waterways Development Council. 
  • DYFI, CPM’s youth wing, held a massive rally called ‘Insaaf Brigade’ at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, calling for the defeat of, what they called, “communal BJP and corrupt Trinamul.” A party worker took pride in saying the attendees were given common man’s food–Rice, dal, and vegetables, unlike lavish meals at TMC and BJP events. 
  • Some 500 female students studying at the Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Haryana’s Sirsa have written to the PMO and CM ML Khattar accusing a professor of sexual harassment, seeking his suspension, and an inquiry under a retired HC judge. 
  • BJP’s Surenderpal Singh lost by 11,200 votes in Rajasthan’s Karanpur constituency, where polls were not held on November 25 as Congress candidate and then MLA Gurmeet Singh Kooner died. However, Surenderpal was administered an oath of office along with others, not anticipating he would lose the seat.
