  • India’s Solar Mission Aditya L1, launched on September 2 last year, has reached its destination at L1 point, roughly 1.5 million km from the Earth. The final maneuvering to position it there was done by ISRO by around 4 pm today.
  • ED arrested TMC leader and former Bongaon Municipality chairman Shankar Adhya early this morning in connection with an alleged ration scam. As Adhya was arrested, his supporters tried to stop ED officials and attacked their vehicles. CRPF Personnel had to baton charge to bring the situation under control.
  • Gangster Sharad Mohol succumbed to bullet injuries after he was shot at point-blank range on Friday around 1.30 pm by three to four assailants believed to be members of his own gang in Pune. Police have arrested eight suspects from a vehicle along the Pune-Satara road and recovered arms and ammunition from them.
  • Several northern states of the country, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Dehli-NCR, witnessed cold winter mornings with very dense fog. Owing to cold wave conditions, schools in Noida and Greater Noida will remain closed till January 14 for students up to Class 8. 
  • India will be providing a financial package of Rs.1000 crore to Nepal as assistance for rebuilding the country’s infrastructure, which was hit badly by an earthquake that occurred in Western Nepal last November, said EAM Jaishankar while inaugurating the new central library of Tribhuvan University, with his Nepalese counterpart NP Saud.
  • Maldivian President Muizzu has broken the tradition of his predecessors’ first port of call to India by choosing to visit Turkey first after assuming power. He is also slated to visit China from Jan 8 to 12. India has reacted by saying it’s for them to decide where they want to go and about their international relations.
  • India is tightening rules that ensure mandatory compliance with good manufacturing practices in the pharmaceutical industry following overseas drug deaths. Small Pharma companies/MSMEs are expected to follow the revised good manufacturing practices and comply with the rules over 12 months and the larger ones in 6 months.
