  • The opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have questioned Chief Minister MK Stalin’s visit to Spain. While, BJP State President K Annamalai wanted to know the truth behind his visit, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has alleged that the CM’s visit is to invest his government’s ill-gotten money in the country. 
  • Things aren’t too well in the opposition INDIA bloc, with the exit of Nitish Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal announcing that AAP will go solo in Haryana, and seat-sharing between MVA members remaining inconclusive in Maharashtra. Earlier, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced their parties would contest alone while staying in the INDIA Alliance.  
  • The Central Government plans to rehabilitate beggars in 30 cities under a sub-scheme ‘SMILE’- Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprises. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment aims to make these cities beggar-free by 2026 and add more cities to the list. Incidentally, the cities chosen are of religious, historic, and tourism significance.
  • Kota registers one more student death. Niharika Singh (18), preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), made the tragic decision to commit suicide, unable to cope with the exam stress. She was found hanging at her residence, leaving a suicide note for her parents. 
  • Thousands of volunteers from the BJP, JD(S), and Hindu groups took a 15-km long rally from the Keragodu village to Mandya’s Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday. They were protesting against the removal of a Saffron flag with Hanuman’s image from a 108ft high post. Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy joined the rally wearing a saffron shawl.
  • West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar said the Central government would implement CAA ahead of the Lok Sabha Polls. Earlier, Union Minister Shantanu Thakur claimed the move would be made across India in the next seven days. It may be recalled that in December last year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared in Kolkata that nobody can stop the Centre from implementing the CAA. 
  • The Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) experts did a meticulous job of removing oil stains from the wings of 10 Pelicans rescued from Ennore Creek. They used dish wash detergent, warm water, and vegetable oil to clear the stains. Chennai Wildlife Warden E Prasant said they plan to release them in the same area from where they rescued the pelicans.
