  • Nitish Kumar has become Bihar Chief Minister for the 9th time after submitting his resignation as the chief minister of the RJD-JD(U) Mahagathbandhan government. Along with Nitish, BJP’s Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Sinha were also administered oath on Sunday. 
  • At the Diamond Jubilee Year inaugural function of the Supreme Court, PM Narendra Modi said the government had approved ₹800 crores for expanding the SC building. However, in a lighter vein, he said he hopes no petitions challenging the expenditure arise as it happened during the Central Vista development.
  • JD (U) Chief Nitish Kumar snapped ties with RJD and Congress saying, “Things were not working well in the Mahagathbandhan and INDIA bloc.” He also met Governor Rajendra Arlekar, with BJP and HAM leaders, to stake claim to form the new government in Bihar. 
  • Rohini Acharya came down heavily on Nitish Kumar in a series of tweets. One of her tweets read, “Garbage goes back into the dustbin.” She also quoted her father Lalu Prasad’s earlier comment, calling Nitish a snake that needs to shed its skin every two years. 
  • ASI report on Gyanvapi Mosque claims it found 55 stone sculptures inside the complex, including Shivlingas and idols of Hindu deities Vishnu, Nandi, Ganesha, Hanuman, and Krishna. The report adds that a pre-existing Hindu structure appeared demolished during Aurangzeb’s rule in the 17th Century.
  • In Chennai, the DMK headquarters ‘Anna Aruvalyam’ is hosting a seat-sharing talk between allies DMK and Congress. As per reports, Congress is expected to share a list of 21 constituencies it prefers to contest in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. 
  • IMD has given two cold wave alerts for the western Himalayan region, one from January 28 and another from January 31. It has also predicted snowfall over J&K, Ladakh, Himachal and Uttarakhand. A dense fog warning has been issued to Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and UP till January 31, and rainfall after that. 
  • A beautiful video of an elephant herd helping a tiny baby elephant to get out of a muddy puddle at the Addo Elephant National Park has become viral. The sweet encounter was shot and shared by Jolandi De Klerk, who was on her honeymoon with her husband, on LatestSightings.com
