  • French President Emmanuel Macron landed in Jaipur today. He was joined by PM Modi, for a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site Jantar Mantar. Both leaders then held a massive roadshow till Sanganeri gate, stopping at the Hawa Mahal en route.
  • India’s Navy Chief R Hari Kumar said that the Center has not issued any orders so far asking Indian troops posted in Maldives to withdraw. The Maldivian government, under President Mohamed Muizzu, has asked India to call back its defense personnel by March 15. 
  • Former Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar, who quit the BJP and joined the Congress last year ahead of the Karnataka assembly election, has returned to the BJP. The 67-year-old Shettar, who is from the Lingayat community, dumped the BJP last April as it denied him a ticket to contest from the Hubli-Dharwad Central assembly constituency. 
  • Maratha Activist Manoj Jarange-Patil is headed to Mumbai to begin his hunger strike on January 26, amid orders from the Mumbai Police prohibiting processions and gatherings of five or more in the city till Feb 6. Meanwhile, Jarange has claimed that 2-2.5 crore Maratha people would enter Mumbai by Friday. 
  • President Droupadi Murmu made a televised address to the nation at 7 pm, on the eve of India’s 75th Republic Day. In her Speech, President Murmu hailed the Ram Temple Inauguration, India’s G20 Presidency, Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, and Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur. 
  • BJP has sought public input to shape its 2024 election manifesto. PM Narendra Modi, in a post on X, has asked the youth of the nation to contribute to the BJP’s 2024 election manifesto, adding they could share their thoughts via the NaMo App.
