  • PM Narendra Modi performed the consecration rituals to install the deity of Ram Lalla in the newly built Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The highly guarded and live-streamed event was held with much fanfare, with India’s top business tycoons, politicians, and celebrities present at Ayodhya. 
  • After Rahul Gandhi was prevented from entering a temple in Assam’s Nagaon today, the Congress leader staged a protest outside its premises. In Kolkatta, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee went on her “all-faith” rally in Kolkata, visiting worship places of various religions amid Ram Temple consecration in Ayodhya.
  • Maratha activist Manoj Jarange-Patil’s march to Mumbai, demanding reservation for the Maratha community reservation from the OBC quota, entered Ahmednagar on Sunday. Jarange-Patil rejected a plea from Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde to pause the march and wait for the government to take its efforts. 
  • Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has asked people to vow their commitment to the nation’s secular credentials and Constitution by declining to participate in the Ayodhya Ram Temple inauguration. He expressed concern that the line separating religion and State appears to be getting thinner.
  • Construction of a grand mosque in Ayodhya, named “Masjid Muhammed bin Abdullah,” will begin this May and conclude in 3-4years, said Haji Arfat Shaikh, the head of the development committee of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF). He added that a crowd-funding website would be up to garner funds for the proposed mosque.
  • The Union Ministry of Law and Justice said 81% of the 20,972 respondents who registered their suggestion to a government’s notice on simultaneous elections have said they favor the idea. The center has also sought 46 political parties to express their views on ‘One Nation One Election.’
