  • India will fence its borders along Myanmar to prevent free movement into India, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The move could end the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between the countries and people in the border regions may have to apply for a visa to enter the other country. 
  • Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan will hold a protest against the center at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Feb 8. He will be joined by all Kerala State Ministers, LDF MLAs, MPs, alliance partners and like-minded parties to express their dissent against alleged ‘neglect’ and ‘apathy’ towards Kerala. 
  • Election Commission of India has told the center that holding simultaneous polls will incur an estimated ₹10,000 crore rupees every 15 years to buy new EVMs. With an estimated shelf life of 15 years, the EVMs could be used to run three cycles of elections.  
  • The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has expressed its strong opposition to the ‘One nation, One election’ idea, saying it will provide an “unfair advantage” to any party that is ruling at the union level. Adding it will detrimentally impact the Indian multi-party system. 
  • Republic Day celebrations in India will witness participation from French Foreign Legion with a 95-member contingent and French Rafael jets. French President Emmanuel Macron will be the chief guest for India’s Republic Day on Jan 26. 
  • DoT is likely to issue a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Starlink by Wednesday. Once it gets approval from the Indian government, Elon Musk’s Starlink will be able to provide space-based broadband services in India. 
  • The Delhi Police has claimed it has arrested the key culprit behind Deepfakes of actor Rashmika Mandanna. Other than Rashmika, trouble-mongers spread Deepfakes of several other celebrities, including Alia Bhatt and Sachin Tendulkar on the Social Media.
