  1. Akasa Air has ordered an additional 150 Boeing 737 Max planes at list price, valued over $20 billion, at an Indian Air show.   4. Tharamangalam Police in Salem district of Tamil Nadu has filed a case against a man for force-feeding a live rooster and raw blood-stained meat to a Jallikattu bull. The complaint lodged by Arun Prasanna of People for Cattle in India (PFCI), with video evidence, says it’s unethical to feed bulls, a herbivore, and meat and can lead to unknown diseases.

  7. Indian Navy destroyer INS Vishakapatnam rescued cargo vessel MV Genco Picardy hit by a drone late Wednesday night. MV Genco Picardy, with 22 crew members, nine of them Indians, raised a distress call after a drone attack some 60 nautical miles south of the Port of Eden.
  8. The SC has refused to give a time extension to surrender sought by 11 convicts of the Bilkis Bano gangrape case. The gangrape and murder convicts had filed petitions seeking more time to surrender, citing family responsibilities. Rejecting their pleas, the apex court has asked them to comply with the Jan 8 order directing them to surrender within two weeks.
  9. Rape Convict and Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to step out of jail again with his 9th parole in 4 years. Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping two women. In 2023 alone, he was out for about 91 days, with three parole granted to him. Sunaria Jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district.
  10. The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled the ‘Statue of Social Justice’ — a 206-foot-tall statue of BR Ambedkar — in Vijayawada today. Purportedly the world’s tallest statue of the leader, the statue is also likely to be listed among the 50 tallest statues in the world.
