  • New Delhi recorded another freezing morning on Wednesday, with minimum temperature dropping to 4 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, dense fog conditions will continue to prevail across several northern states of India over the next five days.
  • Center to notify newly-amended rules more specific to address the issue of misinformation and deepfakes in about a week, said Union Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday, stating poor compliance to advisories issued to the social media. 
  • With the worsening law-and-order situation in Moreh, the Manipur Home Department has sought helicopter assistance from the Ministry of Home Affairs. On Wednesday, a fire exchange between state forces and militants claimed the life of IRB personnel W Somorjit of Imphal West’s Malom.  
  • The Adani Group signed four MoUs with the Telangana government, committing an investment of Rs 12,400 cr. The investment entered into by Gautam Adani, the founder chairman of the Adani Group, and A Revanth Reddy, the CM of Telangana at the World Economic Forum in Davos, would cover multiple sectors. 
  • The Maldivian Government under President Mohamed Muizzu has struck a USD 37-million deal with Turkey to procure military drones that will patrol its high seas, which was earlier executed by India along with Maldivian defense forces. 
  • Tata Motors has launched the Tata Punch EV with prices starting from ₹10.99 lakh. Punch EV will come in five distinct variants. The top variant, Empowered +, priced at ₹14.49 lakh, features a 360-degree camera. The company said deliveries would commence from January 22.
  • After a 2% gain in share prices during the morning trades, the market capitalization of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) crossed the ₹5.8 Lakh Cr mark, touching its 52-week high of ₹919.45/piece. The gain, in turn, helped LIC overtake SBI to become the most valuable PSU. 
  • Apple has opened a massive 15-floor office in Bengaluru on 17 January. The new address for Apple on Cubbon Road in Minsk Square can house up to 1,200 employees, with space to park 740 cars. The office runs entirely on 100 percent renewable energy and also hosts a lot of native plants.
  • Zee Entertainment could file a legal suit against Sony, claiming damages, if the merger talks with Sony fail, as Zee divested three Hindi channels to get an okay from CCI for the merger. However, uncertainties loom large over Punit Goenka’s role in the merged entity and the deadline for talks ending by January 20.
