  • Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has begun his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ from Khongjom War Memorial in Manipur’s Thoubal district today. The yatra will cover 6,713 km, passing through 100 Lok Sabha constituencies and 337 assembly seats within 110 districts, before concluding in Mumbai on March 20.
  • Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu has set March 15 as the deadline for Indian troop withdrawal from his country. Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, the Public Policy Secretary at the President’s Office, conveyed his government’s decision at a media briefing on Sunday. Currently, 88 Indian military personnel are said to be in the Maldives. 
  • Former Union Minister Milind Deora ended his family’s five-decade relationship with the Congress Party and joined the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena. The 47-year-old ex-Congressman said, “Sadly, there is a lot of difference between the Congress my father joined in 1968 and the one I joined in 2004.” 
  • Dense fog conditions impacted visibility in several northern and eastern states of India. At least 22 trains to Delhi from various parts of the country were delayed due to fog. Patiala, Chandigarh, Bareilly, Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj and many other places recorded zero-metre visibility. 
  • As air quality in Delhi-NCR started deteriorating last evening, with average AQI for Delhi at 458 and 457 between 10 am and 11 am on Sunday, the 8-point action plan under stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been re-invoked in the region with immediate effect.
  • Demand for saffron flags and copies of Ramcharitamanas and Hanuman Chalisa has shot up in the run-up to Ram Temple’s inauguration in Ayodhya on January 22. This has resulted in the shortage of Ramcharitamanas at Gorakhpur’s Gita Press for the first time in 50 years. 
  • The harvest festival is being observed across various Indian states under many names like Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Uttrayan, Lohri, Magh Bihu, etc. People of these states are already in a holiday fervor, celebrating their distinct traditions and savoring delicacies like Pongal, Kichdi, Undhiyu, Sesame Jaggery balls, and Chikkis.
