1. AAP wins 132 seats in the MCD polls: The Aam Aadmi Party has won 132 seats in the 250-member Delhi civic body, ousting BJP, which managed to win 104 seats despite exit poll predictions indicating a near rout. 

2. Vizhinjam protests against Adani seaport withdrawn ‘temporarily’: Protest against the seaport that is being developed by the Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited at Kerala’s Vizhinjam was called off after talks between CM Pinarayi Vijayan and the agitators. The protest by fisherfolk in Vizhinjam led by the local Latin Catholic Church ran for 138 days. 

3. RBI justifies demonetization at SC: The Reserve Bank of India justified the government’s demonetization move in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The RBI said DeMon was not thoughtless and that the court should refrain from interfering in the economic policy adopted by the government. Meanwhile, the top court has reserved its verdict on pleas challenging demonetization.

4. Delhi HC allows abortion at 33rd week: Delhi High Court has allowed a woman to abort her 33-week pregnancy stating that decisions on medical termination of pregnancy must “recognize the choice of the mother.” 

5. Covid link to sudden cardiac deaths: Dr. Rakesh Yadav, professor of cardiology at the AIIMS, said that incidents of sudden cardiac deaths may have a link to long Covid. He also advised people not to ignore cardiac symptoms and do periodical health check-ups. 

6. Convicts in Lativian tourist murder in 2018 get double life term: Two men convicted of drugging, raping, and murdering a Lativian tourist, who was in Kerala for Ayurvedic treatment in 2018, were sentenced double life term in prison on Tuesday by the Trivandrum district court.  

7. SC on Presidential assent to traditional sports involving animals: The Supreme Court has said it finds “something troubling” in the Presidential assent granted to hold the bull-taming sport Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu, also traditional animal races conducted in Karnataka and Maharashtra. The remarks came from a constitution bench of the SC hearing petitions from animal welfare organizations and individuals. 

8. TN on alert as Cyclone Mandous heads to its northern coast: In the wake of the cyclone to be named Mandous headed towards the northern coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, IMD issued an orange alert on Friday to 13 districts in TN. The National Disaster Response Force has mooted five teams for TN and three for Puducherry to handle emergency rescue and relief work. 

9. EAM S Jaishankar explains the government’s stand on oil buying Russian oil: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told the Rajya Sabha, “We don’t ask our companies to buy Russian oil…However, we ask them to buy what(ever) is the best option they get.” He also reiterated that it is a sensible policy to get the best deal in the interest of our people.  

10. China to allow home quarantine: The Chinese government has further relaxed Covid protocols amid protests against the stringent Zero-Covid policy. It has decided to allow people with mild or no symptoms to quarantine at home and also has eased test requirements in public places.
