  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat party in Jammu and Kashmir has been declared unlawful association under UAPA. He cited the outfit’s secessionist ideology and actions seeking Islamic rule in the valley as reasons behind the decision. 
  • ISRO will send its X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) to space on New Year’s Day from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. Per ISRO sources, PSLV-C58 will launch the XPoSat Satellite into an eastward low inclination orbit at 9.10 IST on Monday. 
  • In Karnataka, Vikram Simha (brother of BJP MP Pratap Simha, who was on the news over the parliament security breach) was arrested by the forest department in connection with the felling of 126 trees worth crores of rupees from Hassan district and moving them elsewhere. 
  • India recorded its highest single-day Covid-19 score in ten months, with 841 new infections on Sunday. According to Insacog, 163 samples taken from across the country have tested positive for JN.1 sub-variant. Among them, 83 cases are from Kerala alone. 
  • The New Year rush in Himachal’s hill destinations has left villages Sissu and Khoksar in Lahaul Valley, some 40 km from Manali, with piles of trash dumped by tourist vehicles passing through the Atal Tunnel. On Sunday, IFS officer Praveen Kaswan shared images in X, showing the plight of the villages.    
  • In Thane, Police detained 80 people from a rave party for consuming drugs and recovered LSD, charas, ecstasy, and marijuana from the premises. Party organizers Tejas Kubal and Sujal Mahajan were also arrested. Incidentally, invites to the party were sent through Instagram. 
  • Indian Navy has deployed four destroyers, one frigate, one P-8I long-range patrol aircraft, also Dornier, and helicopters for maritime surveillance and safety in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden amid increasing attacks on merchant vessels.
  • An 18-year-old Dalit woman was pushed into a hot cauldron in Budaun district by the cauldron owner Pramod and his friends Raju and Sandeep as she resisted their molestation attempt. The men have been arrested under sections 354, 504, 307, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
