  1. Indian Defence Ministry has signed a deal with Mumbai-based Mazagon-Docks to build six next-gen offshore patrol vehicles for the Coast Guard at Rs. 1615 Crores. The vessels, to be ready in 66 months, are expected to boost coastal security. 
  2. Madras HC has sentenced senior DMK leader and State Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy to three years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs.50 lakh in a disproportionate asset case filed by DVAC in 2002. Earlier in June, a trial court in Vellore had acquitted Ponmudy and his wife. 
  3. The mass burial of 87 Kuki-Zo tribals killed in Manipur’s ethnic violence took place on Wednesday in the hill district of Churachandpur. The deceased included 8-month-old baby boy Issac, 86-year-old Douthang Haokip, and 8 Kuki women. During the burial, they were offered gun salutes by tribal volunteers.  
  4. ASI is exploring the possibility of excavation at the Gevad Valley on River Ramganga’s banks in Almora district of Uttarakhand. ASI’s Regional State Archaeological officer, Dr Chandra Singh Chauhan, said the presence of clusters of centuries-old temples in the region indicates the presence of an erstwhile civilization there.

The pregnant woman airlifted from Srivaikuntam in Tamil Nadu by IAF’s Mi-17 V5 Helicopter and admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai has delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 3.18 kg. The woman, Anushiya Mayil, and her family were rescued on Tuesday morning, two days after their residence was marooned under the deluge.
  6. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son, Bihar’s Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, on Dec 22 and 27, respectively, for questioning in the Railways land-for-jobs scam. ED filed a case against them under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, acting on CBI’s FIR. The agency has also attached eight properties belonging to Lalu and his family. 
  7. Amendment to the Criminal Law Bill decriminalizes death caused by medical negligence, which was earlier subject to criminal action under IPC Section 30 A. Union Home Minister Amit Shah told the Parliament on Wednesday that the amendment has been brought in upon request from the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
  8. The Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria District has reported the death of two tigers, purportedly killed in territorial fights. Nearly 40 tigers have died in Madhya Pradesh alone, raising concerns among foresters. 
  9. Several salt manufacturers in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu face severe losses as their stocks were wiped away in the recent floods. Many fear that flood water could affect the salinity, thereby salt production in the region.
  10. A Nigerian national, with 99 cocaine capsules (worth Rs.20 crore) in his stomach, was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The capsules in his stomach were later removed at a city hospital. 
  11. In Pakistan, former PM Imran Khan will contest in the upcoming National elections said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Gohar Khan. Imran, lodged at a high-security prison in the Garrison city of Rawalpindi, has decided to contest in three seats.
