1. ED seals the Young India office in the capital: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday searched Herald House in Central Delhi, which houses the registered offices of AJL and Young Indian. It also probed dozen other locations connected with the National Herald money laundering case.
2. Codeine-based cough syrups to be banned: To prevent certain medical drugs from being used as Narcotics and Intoxicants, a health ministry expert committee has recommended a ban on 14 products. It includes codeine-based formulations used in cough syrups.
3. Longwood Shola receives Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) accreditation: The Longwood Shola forest in Kothagiri, also called Dodda Solai by the local Badaga community in the Nilgiris, has received the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) accreditation. QCC, a conservation program, was initiated in 2015 to protect woodlands across commonwealth countries.
4. Tamil Nadu Transport Unions warn of indefinite strike: Transport Unions in Tamil Nadu have threatened the government that they will go on an indefinite strike starting this week. The transport workers are demanding that the government reinstate a pay scale that was in effect for over 40 years. Also, revive the dearness allowance (DA) for retried transport employees.
5. Indian fighter jets in ‘Pitch Black’: India will participate in the ‘Pitch Black’ air combat exercise in Australia this month. The joint exercise will see 100 aircraft from 17 countries take part. From India, four Sukhoi-30MKIs, one C-17 Globemaster, and an IL-78 mid-air refueling aircraft will join the ‘Pitch Black.’
6. CBI says bribes were also given to a family in India in the VVIP chopper scam: Arguing against the bail plea of VVIP chopper scam-accused Christian Michel James, the CBI made a startling revelation in the Supreme Court. The probe agency said that in addition to payouts made to IAF officers, defense ministry officials, bureaucrats, and politicians, bribes were also given to a family in India.
7. In three years, 81 Chinese were issued ‘leave India notice.’: The Home ministry informed Lok Sabha that between 2019-2021, some 81 Chinese nationals were given ‘leave India notice.’ It also added that 117 of them were deported and 726 of them were placed on an adverse list for violation of visa conditions and involvement in illegal activities.
8. 5G network to launch in the top metros of the country — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkatta: In addition, Gurugram, Pune, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Gandhi Nagar, would be among the first recipients of the high-speed 5G network. As per telecom industry sources, network deployment is happening at a breakneck pace as the government wants the 5G services rollout to happen as early as October.
9. Baloch crash kills six Pakistani army officials: A copter crash in the restive Balochistan province has killed six Pakistani army officials. Lt Gen Sarfaraz Ali, Quetta Corps Commander, and Major Gen Amjad Hanif, the Director-general of Pakistan Coast Guard, were among the killed. Though the military cited “bad weather” as the reason for the crash, a Baloch rebel group, Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS), claimed responsibility for the crash.
10. The first woman to be the permanent representative to the United Nations: Senior diplomat Ruchira Kamboj, a 1987-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, took charge as India’s new permanent representative to the United Nations on Tuesday. Kamboj, the first Indian woman to honor the post, said, “To the girls out there, we all can make it!”
