1. Three IAF officers terminated from service for BrahMos misfire: Three Indian Air Force officers — one group captain and two wing commanders — were fired on Tuesday, after a Court of Inquiry (CoI) found that the officers failed to follow the Standard Operating Procedures resulting in the misfire of the BrahMos missile inside Pakistan on Mar 9, 2022. 

2. BJP MLA arrested for remarks on Prophet Muhammed: BJP has suspended its Telangana MLA T Raja Singh for his remarks on Prophet Muhammed in a social media video post. Amid mounting protests against his comments, Raja Singh was arrested by the Hyderabad Police. However, just some hours after his arrest, the BJP MLA was released on bail.  

3. Mahua Moitra moves SC against remission given to Bilkis Bano convicts: TMC MP Mahua Moitra has moved the SC challenging the remission granted by the Gujarat government to all the eleven convicts in the Bilkis Bano case. 

4. Congress prepares for its Bharat Jodo Yatra: On Sep 7, the Congress party will kickstart its Bharat Jodo Yatra, a mass outreach program that will begin from Kanyakumari and end at Kashmir, covering a distance of 3,500 km. However, the party has not revealed whether Rahul Gandhi would lead the yatra.  

5. SC refers Sena tussle to a larger bench: The Supreme Court has referred petitions from Shiv Sena and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde faction to a five-judge bench and directed the Election Commission not to pass any immediate orders on the party’s poll symbol.   

6. Flood situation in North Odisha worrisome: The flood situation in North Odisha is grave as Subarnarekha, Budhabalang, Jalaka, and Baitarani rivers are in spate due to heavy rains. Nearly 9.66 lakh people are affected, according to state officials. 

7. Delhi HC’s observation on parental consent for marriages involving minor Muslim girls: Justice Jasmeet Singh of the Delhi HC has observed that as per the Mohammedan law, a minor girl, upon attaining puberty, can marry without her parents consenting to the wedlock, and the girl enjoys the right to live with her husband even when she is below 18 years. 

8. Imran Khan could face arrest once his three-day bail elapses: Pakistan’s interior minister Rana Sanaullah said that Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan could be arrested on Aug 25, soon as his three-day protective bail ends. 

9. Flood-related destruction in Afghanistan mounting: Flash floods in Afghanistan have claimed over 100 lives and washed away thousands of homes as per authorities. Heavy rains since mid-June have resulted in the death of 820 people and have destroyed or damaged as many as 320,000 houses across the country.   

10. Dhaka announces measures to save power: Bangladesh schools will have an additional holiday on Saturdays, and government agencies will function between 0800-1500 hours against the usual 0900-1700 hours to save power.
