Karnataka HC will give its final verdict on whether girls can wear Hijabs in schools and colleges. As a precaution, the State Government has put section 144 in place and has deployed more than 10,000 cops to maintain strict vigil in Bengaluru. The administration also has orders to prohibit gatherings and protests around 200m from schools and colleges.
In Udupi, where the issue of wearing Hijab originally started and in other districts of Uttara Karnataka, restrictive measures are in place. Earlier, violent clashes erupted between students for and against Hijab, and the Government had to declare holidays to schools and colleges.
Later hearing a petition from the girls seeking permission to wear Hijab in schools and colleges, the High Court issued an interim order and referred it to a larger bench. However, the interim order stoked controversies and debates as it instructed students not to sport any religious attire to educational institutions until it spells out its final verdict.
