A day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting ended, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal made strong remarks on the party leadership in his Interview with the New Indian Express.

He said the party leadership is in Cuckoo land, and he wants a ‘Sab ki Congress’ (Everyone’s Congress), while some want Ghar ki Congress (Congress of the family). It’s a statement directly referring to the Gandhi family. However, he said he would fight for that ‘Sab ki Congress’ till his last breath.

When asked about Rahul Gandhi as party president, he noted that Rahul Gandhi is already the de facto president and takes all the decisions. He also added that the Gandhis should voluntarily step aside and pave the way for someone else to lead.

He said a Congress party also exists with many leaders outside its working committee, and they have an entirely different viewpoint. Incidentally, he was one among the 23 leaders who wrote to party president Mrs. Sonia Gandhi asking for sweeping reforms in 2020. Since then, there have been differences brewing between these leaders and the CWC.

Nevertheless, this is perhaps the first time a senior member of the party has come out brazenly open in criticizing the Gandhi family.
