Thai Navy ship HTMS Sukhothai with a hundred-plus crew, capsized in the storm that hit the Gulf of Thailand. Authorities on Monday said they could rescue 75 members, as 31 are still missing. The disaster occurred when the ship was patrolling 32 km east of Bang Saphan (Prachuap Khiri Khan province). A short circuit inside the power room is suspected to have caused the mishap.

Speaking to the BBC spokesman Admiral Pogkrong Monthadpalin said, “This has almost never happened in our force’s history, especially to a ship that is still in active use.” Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha, in a statement, said he is “following the news closely and that five people are seriously injured.” It was in the mid-1980s HTMS Sukhothai was built by the US to be inducted into the Thai navy.
