Around the world, in many countries, Coronavirus cases are surging again. East and Southeast Asian countries and Europe are witnessing a sharp rise in cases. China is in a massive lockdown mode, with 30 million people staying indoors to check the spread of the virus. 

In East Asia, the worst-hit country is South Korea. It is facing a massive spread unseen by the country since the pandemic began, with 24 lakh cases within a week. In the same period, Vietnam has registered 12 lakh cases. 

The other badly affected nation is Hong Kong. It is witnessing high Omicron deaths. According to agencies, morgues are full. Refrigerated containers are being used to store the bodies of dead Coronavirus patients.

On the other hand, Europe is seeing the second wave of Omicron, with Germany reporting 15 lakh cases and the UK 4.8 lakh cases in the last seven days. However, in the Netherlands, cases are beginning to fall. 

Speaking on the worldwide resurgence of Coronavirus cases, World Health Organization DG Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called it “A tip of the Iceberg.” Mainly because after several weeks of the declining trend in cases, the testing for Coronavirus has come down in many countries.
