Vikram movie review – A fully packed action thriller movie released worldwide on 3 June 2022. The film was released on 4k/4k Laser screen with ATMOS/Dolby 7.1 sound effects in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Movie Highlights
Kamal Haasan is back with his stunning performance — whether it is his emotions, actions, or body language, we can see his all-round performance. And he proves himself to the audience that age is just a number. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has once again demonstrated that he is a master of scripts and direction.
Lead role Co-stars Vijay Sethupathi (as Santhanam), Fahadh Faasil (as Amar), Chemban Vinod Jose (as Police chief Jose) have shared more screen space along with the Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan. In addition, the characters of Kalidas Jayaram, Narain, Gayathrie, Hareesh Peradi, and Shivani Narayanan get ample room to perform.
Art of the Movie
Kamal Haasan (as Karnan) has played an extraordinary role, and as we know, when the script falls on the right track, Kamal takes it to the next level. Fahadh Faasil takes more screen space in the first half, and his expressions and dialogue delivery are simply amazing.
Fahadh plays a role as an agent invited by the Police chief to investigate the murders. He further finds multiple reasons for the murders; also the people behind them, and their motives.
Spoiler Alert: Amar finds out that Karnan is behind everything and exposes it to the Police chief. However, the team stops the investigation as the motive of the murders is to stop the drug mafia, and moreover, Karnan is an Ex-Agent. The police chief tries to know where Karnan could be found, but Amar refuses to convey and walks off as he knows the actual people and reasons behind the crime.
Vijay Sethupathi’s character acts as a true villain, and as a criminal, he steals the show with his outstanding performance. The real villain is someone who makes the audience hate him to the core, and he achieves that. Chemban Vinod Jose, Kalidas Jayaram, Narain, and the team play their best in harmony with the script. The film’s critical success is both its 1st half and 2nd half are equally good and packed with action and thrill. We will find zero lag, with the BGM, in particular, giving more life to every scene.
Spoiler Alert: The mass scene of Kamal just before the interval will make the audience tremble with Goosebumps. Also, the climax firing scene. Indeed, at multiple junctures of the movie, you will get a similar experience.
Surya (as Rolex) plays a 5 min cameo in the climax scene, which is one of the best scenes in the movie. What a performance! It is indeed an honest tribute from him as a fan of Kamal. Moreover, the shocking news is that Surya did not accept any payment for his appearance, according to a verified tweet.
Vikram FAQ
Many do ask whether there is any connection or continuation between Vikram (1986) and Vikram (2022). No, not exactly. Both have a different storyline, and the artists don’t relate to any. The only connection is the name of the agent, referred to as ‘Vikram’. He comes as an Ex-agent who investigates and finds out about the crime, also as the 1st batch of Off-record-agent.
Behind the Screen
Lokesh Kanagaraj as a director and writer, makes a difference again, especially in the way he projects his roles and how they perform. Rathna Kumar is one of the writers who has joined hands with Lokesh Kanagaraj in the film.
Lokesh Kanagaraj has already proved his caliber with his classy direction and scripts in his earlier movies, Kaithi and Master. Vikram is certainly one level above them.
The next best is the ‘Music’. Anirudh Ravichander seems to have understood the pulse of the script and the team of actors, and he astutely showcases their presence. We can call it one of the best all-time music from Anirudh. Especially the song ‘Pathala Pathala;’ one of the most trending songs now.
The BGM of the movie is spellbinding. Every scene has a BGM loudness that aligns with the script and character, whether it portrays Kamal, Fahad, Vijay, or Surya. The BGM tracks appear best picked for the scenes and deserve credit for giving the audience goosebumps.
Film editing by Philomin Raj is good when the play is between Kamal vs. Fahad vs. Vijay. The cinematography by Girish Gangadharan is equally good.
Action/Stunts by Anbariv are eye-catching, and the fight scenes between Kamal and Vijay are well-portrayed by Anbariv.
VFX by Bejoy Arputharaj and team is good. Every part of the movie steals the show and leaves the audience thrilled. When compared to the other areas of performance in the movie, VFX could have been the best. It’s generally an expectation since the script and the play are strong. Here, VFX seems uncovered — nothing major, though.
Vikram movie is from Raaj Kamal Films International and Udhayanidhi Stalin production. The success rate of the film should have made Kamal Haasan happy and would have been a big relief for him to sail out of his financial crisis.
Vikram OTT Release
Since the executive production and promotion are by Disney, we can expect the Vikram OTT could release on Disney+ Hotstar. No official confirmation yet (Read the space for updates).
Vikram Scores To Add To Mega Blockbusters List
Overall the Vikram movie is a mega blockbuster now. And is a good treat for the fans of the crew, especially for Kamal Haasan’s fans, as there were no films of him for the last four years. Even being a big hit from Day 1 after a few shows, the promotion could have been more, in my personal opinion. The film is good enough to compete with KGF, RRR, and Baahubali bucket hit list. The movie is definitely up to that standard. If suppose Vikram 2 could arise, there is a high chance for it to compete with the KGF, RRR & Baahubali sequels in terms of collection. Let’s see.
